Mason & Hamlin model A grand piano, made in 1929. Offered as a custom restoration - don't settle for what's already available, let us restore it the way you want it. Complete cabinet refinishing is included. The wood is in great condition and is a very attractive mahogany. This gives many options regarding the cabinet.
Can be a medium to dark finish, lean toward red tones or brown tones and can be a gloss or satin finish. The finish can also be an opaque finish like ebony or white (or any color) in gloss or satin sheen. The hardware is solid brass.
It can be polished to a brilliant finish (as original), rubbed to a satin sheen or nickel plated - your choice. The keytops required replacement, so....
There are a number of choices for the natural or "white" keytops. I've included a photo that shows an octave each of five common selections: a solid, brilliant white; a solid off white; a glossy simulated ivory grain, a satin simulated ivory grain and a glossy grained white keytop. Contact me if you would like higher res photos. The sharps are genuine ebony and in excellent condition. Hammer density plays an important part in the tone of a piano.
Knowing your preference as far as a "mellow" or a "bright" tone will provide direction as to what hammers to install and how to voice them. Touchweight can also be adjusted. While I haven't had many people prefer a heavy touch, it can be done. A medium or light touch can also be produced depending on several factors that can be controlled based on parts selected and regulation/setup.
New Mason & Hamlin grands come with a carbon fiber/tube/composite action. If you want the same action we can do that. It's another option you have when electing to have a grand piano custom rebuilt to your preferences. Whether carbon or wood is chosen, all hammers/shanks/flanges are being replaced as are the wippens (repetitions), back checks and more.
Also included is a new pinblock, strings and tuning pins as well as many, many smaller parts. 6 month expected completion time (much preparatory work completed already).
Upon deposit, I'll gladly send samples of keytop material, finish samples and hardware samples to facilitate selection of options if desired. We'll also gladly work with your shipper for distances further than that.
