In early July the music community lost a revered, internationally reknowned pianist. Peter Nero was a Grammy winning composer, performer and conductor. Nero recorded dozens of albums, performed on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, " and appeared with singers including Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Mel Tormé, Rod Stewart and Ray Charles. When it came to music, pianist Peter Nero had little use for labels. For more than a half-century, the Juilliard-educated conductor, composer and musician seamlessly bridged pop, jazz and classical traditions, performing eclectic programs in which the opening notes of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony might segue into the jazz standard Darktown Strutters' Ball. " Carole King and "Jesus Christ Superstar" tunes would give way to works by Gershwin and Chopin, and an aria from Puccini's "Madame Butterfly" would suddenly transform into the show tune "Memory, " from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats - with a few classical allusions thrown in for good measure. Peter Nero was a lifelong Steinway Artist and at the request of his family.... His personal Steinway Model D Concert Grand has been brought to our Steinway Showroom here in Florida so it can be viewed...

Nero's actual Grammy Awards are not included with this sale but other historically significant musical items are. This includes an original movie poster from Sunday in New York.... The album cover from Summer of'42....

And other music-related memorabilia from Peter Nero's home. Most unique is an engraved Sterling Silver Tray that came from Tiffany's New York and was presented to Nero by Steinway. Its still in its Tiffany-blue velvet pouch. This Steinway D was built in 2000 and was specially selected by Peter Nero at the Steinway factory in New York when it was brand new.
