Steinway & Sons 1912 Model O Grand Piano 5' 10 Satin Ebony with Bench. This Steinway & Sons 1912 Model O Grand Piano in Ebony finish is 5' 10 in length with 7 1/4 octaves, 88 notes. The Model O is the largest of Steinways small grands.

This piano is large enough to satisfy those who demand a full, rich sound, yet sized to fit in almost any home. The Model O is very similar to the Model L. The New York Steinway factory discontinued the Model O Grand in 1923 and replaced with the new Steinway Model L.

Very similar in both size and performance, the main difference between these two models is that the Model L features a more squared off tail design. This feature was introduced to allow for a larger soundboard area. The Hamburg Steinway factory continued production of the Model O and never put the Model L into regular production. In a rare move, the Model O was reintroduced by Steinway, New York in 2005, replacing the Model L. We recently acquired this Steinway & Sons Model O Grand piano at an estate sale.

This piano dates to 1912 and was built in New York with serial #156xxx. Drehers & Sons in Cleveland, Ohio, which was Steinway's local dealer at the time.

So it has spent its life in our area, as Cleveland is located about 50 miles north of The Farm. The soundboard is in great condition, with buzzing or cracks.

This piano has been refinished at some point and the original brass hardware has been painted silver on the hinges, pedals and wheels. It includes the bench pictured. In addition, we also paid for a piano technician to come in and oil the keys, check the action and inspect and analyze its true condition. He found that it is in overall great condition and that the soundboard is in wonderful, near perfect, condition.

He also confirmed that the keys have been replaced, it has been refinished and re-hammered. Although it's currently tuned a half-step down, he confirmed that it does hold a tune with ease and that the action is smooth and sturdy. Overall, he was very impressed with the condition and playability of this amazing piano.
